Alabama Physical Therapy Jurisprudence Course
Description of the Course: The purpose of this course is to re-familiarize the licensee with the Alabama Physical Therapy Practice Act. Both the regulations and rules of the Practice Act are covered. Selected portions of the Practice Act are presented. In addition, other portions of the Practice Act are included for the licensee. These are Board opinions and declaratory rulings. The licensee is taken through the various parts of the Act to guide their practice legally as well as how to change their own Practice Act.

Objectives:
1. The licensee will be able to list five behaviors or actions that are considered conduct unbecoming for a licensee in the State of Alabama.
2. The licensee will be able to define the levels of supervision required for various support personnel.
3. The licensee will be able to compare the different ways to change various parts of the Alabama Practice Act.
Instructors:
Andy Gustafson, PT, ATC, FAAOMPT, OMT
Mr. Gustafson has been practicing physical therapy for 20 years. In addition to being one of only a few Fellows in the American Academy in the state of Alabama, he also served on the Alabama Board of Physical Therapy for 7 years. He was Chair for 2 ½ years and the first Violations Committee Chair for that same period. He is only one of 6 certified instructors for the Kaltenborn-Evjenth Concept of Orthopedic Manual Therapy in the country.
Buddy McCormick, PT
He graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1995 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management – PAIR in 1989. Buddy served the Alabama Physical Therapy Association in numerous capacities: APTA Delegate, 2010-2011, APTA Alternate Delegate, 2009, ALAPTA Model Practice Act Task Force – Chair, 2008-2010, ALAPTA BOD - Representative-at-Large, 2005-2008, ALAPTA Federal Governmental Affairs Liaison, 2003-2006, OSHA Work Place Violence Task Force, 2006-2009, OSHA, ALAPTA and GCMSA Alliance Task Force, 2004-2009. In addition, he received the ALAPTA – Chapter Leadership Award, 2010.
